In May 2015 an MoU was signed between Delhi Metro and Rail Tel Corporation to provide the internet facility at different Metro stations. As a part of this, free Wi-Fi is being provided at these two stations initially.

After these two stations the similar facility will be provided at other three stations. These stations are Hauz Khas, Vishwavidyalaya and Central Secretariat. All the Five stations are on the Yellow line of the Metro which connects Huda City Centre (Gurgaon) to Samaypur Badli.

Before this the free Wi-Fi facility was provided in trains and stations of the Rapid Metro, Gurgaon. Commuters are able to access free Wi-Fi in 5.1 Km long network of Rapid Metro.

To access the free Wi-Fi service as soon as passenger enters the paid area of the metro station, they can select available Wi-Fi network names ad ‘Metro-Fi’ and then register themselves through their mobile number. After that, they will receive an SMS on registered number having login password which can be used to login to access the free service.

This can be a good move by the Delhi Metro to provide Free Wi-fi connectivity to their passengers who don’t have cellular internet connections. At some underground stations of the Metro there is problem of cellular network availability, so this free Wi-Fi connectivity will help the commuters.

In coming months or years we can see more stations made Wi-Fi enabled and there could be possibility that DMRC may provide Wi-Fi Connectivity inside metro trains also. Indian Railway is also planning to make some stations Wi-Fi enabled with the help and collaboration of Google.
