BlackBerry PRIV: First BlackBerry Phone Powered by Android

BlackBerry PRIV

BlackBerry PRIV, formerly known as BlackBerry Venice when the rumours first started last month. It the first BlackBerry phone powered by Android OS. The first promo of the BlackBerry PRIV has been released on youtube and you can see the slider in action. The phone is on pre-order in UK on the online BlackBerry Stores.

BlackBerry PRIV’s Design

BlackBerry PRIV has a 5.4 inch display(147×77.2×9.4mm) with curved edges and a QHD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. It also has 540 ppi pixel density which is quite high and makes it one of the high-end phones like Moto X Style or Iphone 6S. It is thinner than the Note 5 and weighs approx 192g.

Now talking about the eye catching design feature, The QWERTY keyboard which is a slider. BlackBerry has always been about QWERTY keyboards which people still fight about that they are faster to type on than touch-screen keyboards. However, BlackBerry has done this before with the BlackBerry Torch. The previously leaked images have already excited the BB Boys and people are just waiting for the phone to launch.BlackBerry PRIV

BlackBerry PRIV’s Camera

PRIV features a 18 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach optics(company known for its innovation lens designs and high-quality large format lenses for cameras), optical image stabilization, autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, HDR, panorama. It shoots videos at 2160@30fps and 1080@60fps.

Schneider-Kreuznach Lens

Only the rear camera has the Schneider-Kreuznach lens, the front camera is 5-megapixel snapper .

BlackBerry PRIV’s Performance

BlackBerry PRIV runs on Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 Hexa-core( Dual-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A57 & Quad-core 1.44 GHz Cortex-A53) processor and Adreno 418 as it Graphics Processor. It has 3GB of RAM and is available in a 32GB memory model. It is expandable up to 200GB via microSD card. 200GB memory cards are now available in India and other countries.

BlackBerry PRIV’s OS

PRIV is the first phone by BlackBerry to run on Android OS instead of BlackBerry OS. We all know how popular android OS has become, so it seems like a good move to finally shift from BB OS to Android v5.1.1 Lollipop.

With the change of OS comes the question of privacy and security, which has been BlackBerry’s essential part in manufacturing a phone. PRIV comes with DTEK, which is a warning app system designed to boost privacy.

BlackBerry has a Google Playstore and all the other Google Bloatware which gives it a full android experience unlike BB10 OS which only worked for few android apps.

BlackBerry PRIV’s Battery

BlackBerry PRIV is powered by a 3,410mAh battery which is quite a capacity,so we can hope for a great battery life. Battery issues have been there in BlackBerry Z series in the past, but we hope maybe Android OS will enhance some battery usage.

BlackBerry PRIV’s Release Date

BlackBerry PRIV is already out for pre-order in UK on its online store. It will start shipping from November 6. BlackBerry’s CEO said that BlackBerry PRIV will have a high-end price tag but it will be made available on EMI or other methods to reach out to as much people as possible.

BlackBerry PRIV’s Price

The BlackBerry PRIV has been priced at £579.99 SIM-free. The monthly plans start from £49 a month with no up-front cost. BlackBerry PRIV might be the phone that brings BlackBerry back in the market and puts it up against with the high-end flagship phones. The QWERTY slider is already quite popular with the previous users and the new ones who are bored with touchscreens already. The battery capacity is one of the highest. PRIV starts shipping on November 6, we will keep you updated with the reviews and issues as soon as we get our hands on it. Till then, watch the first promo video released on October 16.
